Genera and species lists :

The "GTB"

Here is an exhaustive listing of genera and species, eventually subspecies, for which I can help people in getting the diagnosis and/or a description, as proposed by the authors in the original papers. This page is going to be frequently updated. Please contact me if you need more infos, or think I might have forgotten to update this page for a long time ;) (GTB is a pseudo-trademark /jk : it stands for "Gayet's Trilobite Database" and is a joke with the TGB we do have here in France, the Très Grande Bibliothèque)

This list doesn't include all the genera described in the Treatise on INVERTEBRATE PALEONTOLOGY (O), Arthropoda 1, MOORE 1959 neither its revision : the Treatise on INVERTEBRATE PALEONTOLOGY (O), Arthropoda 1, (Trilobita revised)(1) KAESLER 1997. It would be meaningless to relist them all here, as soon as the reader remembers that I have these 2 books :)

Ideally, I wish to work on an information exchange basis :)

Last but not least, an important remark : I frequently won't translate the original diagnosis or description to avoid mistakes, and consequently, loss of informations.

Following the Jell & Adrain 2003 Genera List about synonyms, I sometimes precise "X = Y". The later one is now prefered.

How to use these lists ?

Let's take an example. You want to check that your trilobite is a Parahomolonotus planus planus (KOCH 1883). If you want to get infos from the papers I do posess, simply look for Parahomolonotus planus planus and read the line completely (eventually scroll the page rightward). Currently, it indicates WENNDORF 1990, SCHRAUT 2000a. You can exactly know what to find is these 2papers as I state "diag., descp. and rem." (ie diagnosis, description and remarks). Now, you move to the reference page, and get the complete references of the 2 papers :

SCHRAUT G. 2000a. Trilobiten aus dem Unter-Devon des südöstlichen Anti-Atlas, Süd-Marokko [Trilobites from the Lower Devonian of the south-eastern Anti-Atlas system, Morroco]. Senckenb. Lethaea, 79 (2) : pp 361 - 433.

WENNDORF K.-W. 1990. Homalonotinæ (Trilobita) aus dem Rheinischen Unter-Devon. [Homalonotinæ (Trilobita) from the Lower Devonian of the Rheinisches Schieffer-Gebirge]. Paleontograph. Abt. A 211 : pp 1 - 184.

Let's suppose that you want to check if the nomenclature has changed. You only have to click here : Genera listing, compiled by Sam Gon. This is a synthesis of JELL & ADRAIN 2003. In this particular case, you can see that the genus is still valid :)

JELL P.A. & ADRAIN J.M. 2003. Available generic names for Trilobites. Memoirs of the Queensland Museum 48 (2) : pp. 331 - 553.

It frequently happens that a subgenus has been elevated to a genus. You can see it by the " * " symbol that I recently added to the GTB. As this add is recent, most of the former names haven't been changed yet. Another example : Cornuproetus (Eremiproetus) ferentarius G. ALBERTI 1964 is now Eremiproetus ferentarius (G. ALBERTI 1964). So please, always cross check the GTB with every name that comes to your mind :)
